Are you keen on watersports?
Are you interested in gaining leadership skills?
Do you want to teach sailing, windsurfing, kayaking, sculling/rowing or climbing?
Then why not train to be a Young Leader at HOAC and work alongside our fully qualified instructors during the summer and gain valuable experience as you go. This is an excellent opportunity for those who wish to gain basic skills and progress towards instructor level. The course is designed to help young people towards the national qualifications necessary to teach and lead others in watersports and outdoor activities. You will develop self-confidence, leadership and communication skills that will benefit you whatever your future career.
You need to be aged between 14 and 17 years old and ideally hold at least one watersport qualification to a high level, although this isn’t essential. We will teach you how to assist our team of instructors competently, increase your sailing, windsurfing and paddling skills whilst introducing you to the safety awareness, teaching techniques and group management skills.
The course is subsidised by HOAC and in return those selected will be required to commit some personal time to assist at the centre upon successful completion of the course. They will benefit from one year’s membership and one years free use of equipment to help practice and develop skills.
The basic training takes place over Easter with extensive training throughout the year.
