HOAC/QSC has been a supporter of Bart’s Bash event each year since it started in 2014. Raising funds for the Andrew Simpson Foundation which is a charity dedicated to increasing participation and improving lives through sailing, the event brings sailors together all over the world in one huge virtual race. For the first time since 2014 though, Bart’s Bash will once again attempt a Guinness World Record for the largest sailing race in the world.
HOAC/QSC are holding their Bart’s Bash race at 2pm on Sunday 16th September 2018. It will take the form of a typical Sunday afternoon race (i.e. about 1 hour of laps around marks on the lake) and will also count towards the Sunday series results. Importantly we are also going to be racing for the David McKay Memorial Trophy, which was won last year by Curtis McKay.
This year we are able to raise funds for both Bart’s Bash and a cause of our choosing. We have decided to support the RNLI as it was a favourite charity of David McKay, so donations will be split between the two causes. We are asking for generous entry donations in support of these causes, but in addition if you are able to raise funds from family, friends or through doing something yourself, it would all help. Can we beat our previous best of over £600?
We also will need at least 30 boats starting the race to qualify for our inclusion in the Guinness World Record attempt. We therefore need everyone to join in please! It is helpful if we have an idea of who may be racing, so if you think you may be coming, please do sign up at www.Bartsbash.com – it’s easy (select Queensmead SC as the venue)! But pre-registration is not essential – just turn up on the day and join in (and donate!).
So please support HOAC/QSC, Bart’s Bash, RNLI and compete for a Guinness World Record and the David McKay Memorial Trophy at 2pm on Sunday 16th September 2018.
