British Canoeing Core Coach Training

This two day training course introduces generic/shared coaching content that is relevant to all coaches. The Core Coach training will explore different approaches to coaching, understanding and enabling learning, and some core coaching skills. You will also be supported in evolving your personal coaching development plan to enable you to take your learning into practice after the course. This course is run with a small ratio of 1:4 giving each candidate plenty of coaching time.

British Canoeing Sheltered Water Training (Discipline Specific Training)

This two day sheltered water coach training is based on the knowledge, understanding and skills that the coaches need to ensure the athletes/learners in their care are appropriately provided for. This includes:

• assessing a participants performance and needs
• designing and delivering progressive practice and training sessions to meet these needs
• managing safety
• creating an enjoyable motivating learning environment
• skills to support your own personal learning and professional development

The training course focusing on the What and How to coach, building on your core training in the environment that you wish to coach.

You can choose to be a Sheltered water kayak coach or Sheltered water canoe coach or both Sheltered water canoe/kayak coach for your pathway. (This course is similar to the old Level 2 Coach)

Prerequisites: British Canoeing Membership, Core Coach Training (or equivalent)

1 Day Sheltered Water Coach Assessment
When you feel ready you can complete your sheltered water coach by passing a 1 day assessment which includes practical coaching, rescue skills, personal skills and a discussion topic.
Let us know in the ‘notes for staff’ section when booking the course whether you wish to be assessed as sheltered water kayak coach or sheltered water canoe coach or both.
Assessments must be booked 2 weeks in advance and all paperwork must also be submitted by this point. You will need to have completed the British Canoeing pre-requisites, your eLearning or Level 2 assessment portfolio case study and workbook.
The assessment focuses on your developmental coaching sessions or single craft sessions showing coach understanding.

Pre-requisites: Aged 16 years or over (at the time of the assessment) Coach Award Core Coach Training, Coach Award Discipline Specific Training, Appointed Person First Aid, Safeguarding Training (as required by your Home nation Association) BC membership.
