Great fun for 5-18 years olds during the Easter, Spring Half Term, Summer and October Half Term holiday periods!

When: Easter, Spring half term, seven weeks of the summer holidays and October half term.

Who for: 5-18 years (Nemo’s Watersports Adventures (summer holidays) 5-7 years only)

Times:

8.30am – 10.00am: Drop off course participants (optional)
10.00am – 1.00pm: Morning Courses
1.00pm – 2.00pm: Lunchtime – Supervised session for those attending all day
2.00pm – 5.00pm: Afternoon Courses (October 2.00pm – 4.30pm)
5.00pm – 6.00pm: Collection of course participants (October 4.30pm – 5.30pm)

Awards and certificates: will be presented on the final day

12.45pm for those attending morning courses

4.30pm for those attending afternoon courses and full day sailing courses.

Fun Day: A fun day will take place for all water based courses joining together.

Qualified instructors provide a high level of tuition and safety, students are grouped according to age and ability.

For water activities, participants must be able to swim 10 metres.

Is HOAC an accredited Centre?

All our activities are operated to the highest safety standards and conform to UK National Governing Bodies’ codes of practice where applicable.  HOAC is licensed by The Adventure Activity Licensing Authority (AALA) and have Royal Yachting Association (RYA) and British Rowing Association (BRA) accreditation.

Are you OFSTED registered?
No HOAC is not OFSTEAD registered. See above for who we are affiliated to.

What qualifications do your instructors have?

All our Instructors are qualified to the required level by the appropriate National Governing Bodies and/or a comprehensive in-house training course.

What are the drop off and collection times for your courses?

8.30am – 10am: Drop off course participants (optional)
1pm – 2pm: for those on half day am or pm courses only
5pm – 6pm:  Collection of course participants (October 4.30pm – 5.30pm).

What happens to my child once I have dropped them off at the centre?

A variety of activities are available to keep the children busy until their course starts at 10am.

What happens to my child at lunch time?

Course participants get 30mins for lunch and then they have 30mins of lunch time games run by our instructors.

Can I collect my child early from a course?

Yes you can collect your child whenever you wish but you must sign them out with the main office before leaving site.

What happens if I can’t make the start time?

If you are running late or have a prearranged appointment please call the centre and let us know.

What time are presentations?

Awards and certificates will be presented on the final day (Friday)
12.45pm for those attending morning courses
 4.30pm for those attending all day and afternoon courses (October 4.15pm).

Do you cater for special needs students?

Yes, we will do our best to try and accommodate special needs students within our normal courses. Please call the centre and we will be able to advise you of the most suitable course to book.
If a standard course is not suitable you can come along on Saturdays and attend Challenger Club Sessions.

Will my child be too tired from doing a full day’s activity?
Courses are designed to incorporate breaks and have a mixture of practical and theory sessions. Instructors are aware of the groups needs and will tailor the course to the participants.

Do you offer half day sailing courses for 11- 18 year olds?

No we only offer half day sailing for 8 – 10 year olds.

My child is 11 but wishes to attend an 8 – 10 year old course with his friends is this allowed?

Yes this is not a problem.

My child is 10 but wishes to attend an 11 – 18 year old course with his friends is this allowed?
Please call the centre for assistance with this, as some courses are not suitable for 10 year olds.

My child is 11/12 and wishes to do intro to double handers or seamanship skills but it says it’s for 13years and older can I still book?
Please call the centre and we will advise you if this is possible.

Can my child be with their friend each day?

Children are put into groups based on their age and ability level. If you wish for your child to be with a particular friend please mention this at the time of booking. If this is not possible please remember that they are likely to see their friend out on the water and at breaks and lunch time.

Do you accept childcare vouchers?

I’m sorry but we do not currently accept childcare vouchers.

Discounts
HOAC do not offer discounts on holiday courses as we try and keep the cost of our courses to a minimum.

Can I book just one day?
We only offer individually booked days in October half term. Unless you are booking Nemo’s Adventures where the course is booked for each individual day.

If The course is full will it be extended?

Please give us a call and we will see if we are able to extend the course.

What clothing do I need to bring?
A kit list will be provided at the time of booking detailing any equipment or clothing that you should bring along to the sessions. A change of clothes is necessary for all activities, including footwear and a towel for watersports. Where appropriate HOAC will provide wetsuits, buoyancy aids and cags for water based sessions.

Do you have lockers?
Unfortunately we do not have lockers available to course participants. We have plenty of racking for individuals to leave there bags and we advise that valuable items are left at home. Phones can be left on silent in the log cabin post box.

What is your cancellation policy?

HOAC reserves the right to cancel or curtail any course. On the very rare occasion that this is necessary, a full or partial refund will be made as appropriate, or an alternative course offered. No additional liability for compensation or expenses will be accepted.
Confirmed places that are cancelled in writing by an applicant, and received at the Centre no less than 8 weeks prior to the start date, will result in a refund of the course fee less a 25% administration charge.

Cancellations by applicants within 8 weeks of the start date will result in the full fee being forfeited. In the case of genuine illness, when a doctor’s certificate must be produced, the Centre will refund 50% of the course fee. However, please note that any cancellations on or after the start date will result in the full fee being forfeited. All cancellations must be in writing.

Do you have Insurance?
The Centre’s insurance covers all legal liabilities of the Centre to clients, but does not cover personal accident or loss where there is no liability on the part of the Centre or its employees.
Clients are therefore strongly advised to take out insurance to cover the risk of personal accident, liability or loss of personal effects and also the risk of cancellation.

Holiday Course Terms & Conditions Expand

1. How to make a booking
All bookings are taken online, through our website.

2. Booking Amendments
Once payment has been received the course is non-transferable.

3. Cancellations
HOAC reserves the right to cancel, change activities or curtail any course, due to weather or safety conditions. On the very rare occasion that this is necessary, a full or partial refund will be made as appropriate, or an alternative course offered. No additional liability for compensation or expenses will be accepted.

Confirmed places that are cancelled by customers within 14 days of purchase online will receive a full refund.  All Cancellations must be in writing.

Confirmed places that are cancelled in writing by an applicant, and received at the Centre no less than 8 weeks prior to the start date, will result in a refund of the course fee.

Cancellations by applicants within 8 weeks of the start date will result in the full fee being forfeited.

In the case of genuine illness, when a doctor’s certificate must be produced, the Centre will refund a full or partial refund made as appropriate in the form of a credit note. However, please note that any cancellations on or after the start date will result in the full fee being forfeited. All cancellations must be in writing.

4. Insurance
The Centre’s insurance (Activities Industry Mutual) covers all legal liabilities of the Centre to clients, but does not cover personal accident or loss where there is no liability on the part of the Centre or its employees.

Accidents can happen without any contributory negligence from the centre or its staff. The centre can accept no responsibility for loss or damage to personal property or for personal injury not arising as a result of its own act or default

Clients are therefore strongly advised to take out insurance to cover the risk of personal accident, liability or loss of personal effects and also the risk of cancellation.

5. Weather Conditions
Please be aware that all courses and tuition booked will go ahead regardless of the weather and wind conditions. Our Instructors are prepared for these eventualities and will adapt the delivery of the course accordingly.

6. Safety
Course participants must be physically fit to take part in the activity and water users must be able to swim 10 metres.

7. Buoyancy Aids
CE approved buoyancy aids with a whistle are included in the course fee and must be worn at all times on the water, pontoons and surrounding areas.

8. Medical Conditions / Special Needs
Details of all medical conditions/special needs, including behavioural issues of all participants must be detailed at the time of booking. Any medication that would be needed for the duration of the course must be handed to the instructor in charge of the course participant.

9. Email
Your email address will only be used for the purposes of future promotional information.

10. Photography
Photographs taken by HOAC staff will only be used for HOAC publicity purposes, and will not be passed on to third parties.

When are applications for the Young Leaders Course taken?

We take applications between the 1st January & last Sunday in January each year. Applications outside of this time will not be accepted. Sign up to the mailing list to get a reminder.

I am 13 at the start of the course can I still apply?
Yes you can still apply but those that are aged between 14 and 17 years old will get priority.

What does the cost of the course include?

The course cost includes 15 training days, certificates & log books, HOAC membership & free equipment hire along with a Young Leader hoodie and polo shirt.

What qualifications will I gain from the course?

The course will cover the basic RYA awards for sailing and windsurfing, the British Canoeing award for kayaking/canoeing, British Rowing awards for sculling and in-house training on climbing and high ropes with extra sessions devoted to personal development and understanding the responsibilities of leadership.
Where possible those who already hold a basic level award will receive training at a more advanced level.

Can I do work experience once I have completed this course?

Yes once you have completed the course we will accept you for work experience. Please note that we do not offer work experience to anyone who has not attended the young leader’s course.

I am away for part of the course can I still apply?

Yes you can still apply but those applicants who can attend all the course dates will get priority on the course.

What are the drop off and collection times for the course?
We still offer early collections and late drop offs for young leader course participants see below:

What happens if I don’t get the references back in time?

This should not be an issue however those students who have all the correct paperwork submitted on time will get priority.

I don’t have any qualifications; will I still get a chance to apply?

Yes you can still apply but those students that hold at least one watersports qualification to a high level will get priority. If you have relevant experience but no qualifications please ensure that you give as much information as possible about it to assist us in making an informed decision.

Do I have to do a certain amount of volunteering throughout the year?

As the course is subsidised by HOAC we ask that you volunteer for a total of 1 week. This is normally carried out in the holidays; however there are opportunities to volunteer at weekends and during the evenings in the summer months.

When do I hear that I have a place on the course?

Students who apply for the course normally hear back in the first week of February.

If I don’t get on this year, can I re-apply for next year?

Yes you can re-apply each year. If you are unable to attend this course then why not consider volunteering for challenger club and apply to be a young leader next year instead.
