We are currently recruiting kayaking and sailing instructors for the summer holidays:-
We are operating from Rickmansworth Sailing Club this summer and will be recruiting kayaking and sailing instructors for the summer holidays
We are also looking for staff who are available mid-week to go into schools to run activities, ideally holding GB Archery Instructor or BFA Fencing Instructor or a willingness to become qualified.

What training will I get?
Before the summer starts we will do an induction for instructors at our new summer venue.
How much will I get paid?
The table under job description details HOAC’s pay structure. All instructors get paid monthly at the end of each month by BACS.
What qualification do I need?
As a minimum current and up-to-date Paddlesport Instructor or equivalent or RYA Sailing Instructor.
How many hours do I have to work?
A normal week is 9am through to 5pm. Monday to Friday.
Will I work “on-call” night-time work?
No! There are no duties in the evenings or at weekends
Can I work overtime?
There is unlikely to be any opportunities to work overtime.
Will I have any leave?
As the role requires teaching Monday to Friday with a group. Mid-week leave is not usually granted. Accrued leave will be paid at the end of the contract. Leave accrues at 0.55 days per full week worked.
What will I be expected to do as an Instructor?
As well as instructing, a HOAC instructor works in a team environment to help ensure that everything runs smoothly. This may involve site work, equipment repair and cleaning duties.
I haven’t got any relevant qualifications. Can I still work for you?
This summer we will not be running a trainee program, but we hope to relaunch this shortly.
Is accommodation available?
As we are only operating for a short period, over the summer accommodation is not available this year.
What about HS2 - I have heard you were shut?
We have been closed since October 2020 whilst we await a new site to operate from. This summer we have been able to negotiate a base to operate from on a temporary basis. Hopefully next year we will be at our new site, depending on planning application.

Job Description – Casual Holiday Instructor 2026
Casual holiday instructors work 5 days, Monday – Friday.
Objective
- To work as part of a team in assisting with the overall delivery of the programme of activities at the Centre with specific responsibilities appropriate to experience and qualifications.
Main Responsibilities
- To help set up equipment, instruct and lead groups as appropriate..
- To assist with grounds, cleaning and equipment maintenance.
- To read the staff manual and adhere to the guidelines.
Requirements and particulars for the position
- BC Paddlesport Instructor or equivalent OR RYA Sailing Instructor
- Leadership experience with young people and good communications skills.
- Relevant qualifications and experience.
- To use best endeavours to promote, develop and extend the centre’s interests and reputation and not do anything to its detriment.
- As an integral part of the staff team, a professional, committed and flexible approach to working hours is required.
- The post holder is expected to be flexible in fitting in with the centre’s requirements.
- To hold a valid first aid certificate (min: appointed persons/8hr)
Hours
- The post is 36 hours a week, Monday – Friday 9am – 5pm
- Salary scale for summer holiday instructors (per week)
- Basic without accommodation
- Under 18s: £290.00
- 18-21: £390.00
- 21+: £460.00
- Bonus (max.) £10 per week
- Basic without accommodation
The Centre
HOAC, a registered youth educational charity, is situated in the heart of London’s green belt. It is a rural outdoor centre in an idyllic setting of lake and woodland. However it has been closed due to HS2 crossing the middle of our lake and destroying our woodland and campsite.
HOAC is offering activities in schools during term time and running summer courses at a nearby lake during school holidays.
The vacancies during the summer will all be operating at Merchant Taylors' School
