HOAC Summer Holiday procedures for courses at Rickmansworth Sailing Club 2026
We are pleased to announce we are relaunching our summer program to include sailing. This year we will be operating our summer courses at Rickmansworth Sailing Club located just off the Old Uxbridge Road between Denham and West Hythe/Maple Cross.
What will be doing differently?
Morning courses for 8 – 10 year olds and 11 – 18 year olds in Paddlesports and Sailing.
Afternoon courses for 8 – 10 year olds and 11 -18 year olds in Paddlesports and Sailing.
We will also be able to do full day bookings by choosing to twin 2 half day courses together. This includes early drop off from 8.30am and late up picks until 6pm.
We will be teaching at a ratio of 1:8 for paddlesports and 1:6 for sailing
Directions
Please note that all activities will be taking place at Rickmansworth Sailing Club off the Old Uxbridge Road, West Hyde, Harefield, Hertfordshire, WD3 9YB . Due to HS2 closing our old location on Dews Lane.
Please ensure you approach from the A412 and follow the signs – google maps may take you to the wrong side of the canal so best to avoid trusting the SatNav. If you are using what3words secure.level.violin will take you to the correct road leading to the sailing club (goal.beard.ears will get you to the HOAC area)
Access to the site is via a single track gravel road. Please observe the 5mph speed limit and take care of other road users and pedestrians.
Drive past the Marble and Granite works and follow the road to the end. Please follow direction from staff members on arrival.
Arrival
Please do not arrive earlier that the drop off time as you may not be able to enter!
Drop off from 8.30am – 10am
Morning sessions 10am – 1pm
Morning pick up from 1pm – 1.30pm
Afternoon drop off from 1.30pm – 2pm
Afternoon sessions 2pm – 5pm
Afternoon pick up from 5pm – 6pm
If your child is staying all day they will require a packed lunch and will be supervised over the lunch break.
We will have limited changing rooms and toilets and will be staggering usage on busy weeks. There is limited space please consider arriving ready to go on the water to reduce demand on changing space and allow for more time on the water. The changing rooms do have limited showers and we advise unless necessary that you shower at home.
There are no vending machines onsite so please come with any snacks/lunch and drinks you require for the session.
We advise that students do not bring valuables with them as there is know where to store them.
On arrival please follow the signs and register at the signing in desk.
We will not be able to do our usual large group briefing at the start of the session, this will be done within the small groups.
We don’t have the space at the waterfront for lots of parents to stay during the lesson so would prefer it if you leave the site during the lesson.
End of session
Morning sessions finish at 1pm and all children should be collected by 1.30pm unless they are staying for an afternoon session.
Afternoon courses finish at 5pm and all children should be collected by 6pm
During the session
Sessions will be run at a 1:8 ratio for paddlesports and 1:6 ratio for sailing.
We will have a member of staff on the shore to deal with first aid and to supervise any students coming ashore. The groups instructor will stay with the group for the whole time they are on session with us.
Please note we are not intending to issue wetsuits unless we have poor weather conditions. Students will be issued with a Cag and Buoyancy aid only. We advise they come with a complete change of cloths including shoes.
At the end of the week we will not be able to do our normal presentation of certificates as these will be sent to you directly if your child has achieved a PaddleUK Award.
