Nemo’s Watersports Adventures (5–7 years)

Safety and quality of instruction are, as always, a priority and our instructors are chosen for their ability to work with the appropriate age group.

To help make sessions as stress-free and enjoyable as possible we ask that a responsible adult remains on site for the duration of the activity (we advise there is a maximum of two children per adult). Adults do not have to be able to swim 10 metres, participants require water confidence.

Adults may be encouraged to join in parts of the session, helping with boat rigging, launching and recovery or exploring the lake in sailing boats and kata kanus (twin-hulled extremely stable canoes). A fun opportunity for youngsters to try out these activities in a safe and reassuring environment.

If the responsible adult wishes to get involved in the session there is no extra charge.

Age range

5–7 years (year 1–year 3) – must be in full-time education.

Programme

Day 1: Sailing with parents

This session allows children and adults to sail together in a Drascombe Longboat, where the instructor will be in the boat with you.

Day 2: Den Building and Bell Boating or Kata kanuing

An exciting adventure den building and then exploring HOAC’s varied wildlife around the lake whilst completing an ‘I-spy’ sheet. We encourage adults to come along, helping the instructor control their rowdy crew!

Day 3: Intro to Sailing

This session introduces complete beginners to sailing with activities that are easy to understand and specially tailored for younger children.

Day 4: Pond dipping and Giant SUPing

Grab your nets and go hunting in HOAC’s pond for wildlife before heading back into the labs to investigate your catch under the microscopes. It’s then all aboard the giant SUP board to have fun on the lake.

Day 5: Pirates

Prepare yourselves for adventure as we explore further from shore using a variety of boats to hunt for treasure. Pirate costume is optional.

The activities can be booked as individual days. We highly recommend booking the whole week, to get the most out of the activities.
