Fencing

En Garde. The art of foil fencing requires concentration and discipline. Participants learn the basic stance and principles before trying to outwit their opponent with skill and reactions with mini competitions.

Number of participants: max 24 students per session depending on space

Age: 8 years+

Ratio: 1:12

Time Scale: 1hour 30mins – 2hours

Venue Requirements

Ideally an area the size of a badminton court.

Build own skills and focus. Recognise good quality in performance. Set own targets and aim to beat them. Being safe and applying instructions. Develop an understanding of associated hazards.

National Curriculum Links KS2

English
Learning new vocabulary e.g. foil, mask, hit, lunge. Use descriptive English.
Discuss and evaluate what has happened during the session and take away feedback to build on for the future.
Physical Education
Take part in outdoor and adventurous activities both individually and within a team.
Develop an understanding of how to improve and learn how to evaluate and recognise their own success.
Develop flexibility, strength, technique, control and balance.

Take part in outdoor and adventurous activities which present intellectual and physical challenges and be encouraged to work in a team, building on trust and developing skills to solve problems, either individually or as a group.
Use a range of tactics and strategies to overcome opponents in direct competition through team and individual games.
Develop their technique and improve their performance in other competitive sports.
Analyse their performances compared to previous ones and demonstrate improvement to achieve their personal best.
Take part in competitive sports and activities outside school through community links or sports clubs.
